Some Thoughts Before Next Week's Epic Arrowverse Crossover

The CW recently released almost a hundred promotional photos for next week’s annual Arrowverse mega-event crossover, titled “Crisis on Earth-X.”  Among the lot, here are a couple that I want to react to...

Okay, this isn’t one of the aforementioned photos.  This comic book art was released a few months ago to tease the upcoming mega-event.  I just want to comment that this looks awesome.

So Barry Allen and Iris West are finally getting married.  When the show first started, these two had no chemistry at all.  But now… well, I’m actually not sure if they have finally developed some or I just got used to them as endgame pairing.  Personally, I prefer Patty Spivot.

Whoever planned the seating arrangement for the wedding either lacked forethought or has a twisted sense of humor for making a criminal and a police captain sit beside each other.

Mick dozing offduring the ceremony is typical Mick Rory.  Lol.

I have a feeling Sara and Alex are going to hook up.

Alternate evil versions of Green Arrow, Flash, and Supergirl serving as antagonists is a brilliantly intriguing idea.  Having an alternate Harrison Wells instead of an alternate Barry Allen to play the evil Flash is also a nice touch.   And, oh, “Dark Arrow”, “Dark Flash”, and “Overgirl” – the names of these evil doppelgangers – have nice ring to them.

Melissa Benoist is rocking that sexy evil look.

Getting to see Tom Cavanagh playing a villainous Harrison Wells once again is going to be a treat.

The Ray is kind of meh.  The helmet makes actor Russell Tovey a bit laughably hog-like.  But he’ll probably grow into me eventually.

This thought is not exactly related to the event itself.  But let me address it now: I don’t like Wild Dog’s new look.  I think his previous Sportsmaster-inspired costume is more appealing and badass.

Wentworth Miller is back!  This time, I think he’s playing Earth-X’s heroic alternate version of Leonard Snart a.k.a. Captain Cold, who is named “Citizen Cold” and goes by the nickname “Leo.”  I like his mask here, which is a direct allusion to the look of Captain Cold in the comics.  Too bad that this is supposed to be Miller’s last showing in the Arrowverse.

There’s also going to be an Earth-X version of Winn Schott.  However, it doesn’t seem like the original Winn is set for an appearance.  Bummer.  That first nerdy meeting between him and Sisko needs to happen soon!

Holy Big Belly Burger!  These are some epic stills!  Well, images of a huge number of superheroes banding together will always rouse excitement, and these really got me pumped and giddy.  Still, I noticed that, like last year, not every available Arrowverse hero will get a chance to join the party.  It’s kind of cool that Alex is standing among these superheroes.  But isn’t Martian Manhunter more fitting to pose with them?  And where’s Ralph Digby a.k.a. Elongated Man?  And why is there no Diggle?  He has always had the most delightful reactions during these crossovers.  Also, though Wally is there during the wedding, it looks like he won’t suit up as Kid Flash.  Really, this sense of incompleteness bugs me a bit.  In addition, it would be a lot of fun to see past Arrowverse characters – like John Constantine, Katana, Arsenal, Jessie Quick, Jay Garrick, and even the bland Hawk-couple – to show up and participate in these mega-events.  Just bring everybody in!

So, there you go.  Overall, it seems like “Crisis on Earth-X” is going to be great.  But the question is: would it turn out being superior to Justice League, just as Flash and Supergirl’s first meeting turned out being much superior to Batman v Superman?

Next week can’t come soon enough.
