Top 10 Memorable Batman Comic
Book Moments of 2017
2017 was a Batman comic book year for me, and all of my most memorable comic book moments of the year involved Batman.
Honorable Mentions: Batman vs.
Reverse-Flash (Batman #21); Kite Man’s
origin story (Batman #27); Batman uses
his rogue gallery to put Bane on a gauntlet, to wear him down before they go
one-on-one (Batman #19); Batman
recruits Lobo into the Justice League (Justice
League vs. Suicide Squad #6); The Bat-family has a meeting in a
Batman-themed burger joint, and Bruce Wayne eats his burger with a knife and
fork (Batman #16)
10.) Zack explains why he attacked
Batman (Justice League/Power Rangers #2).
Hilarious!
9.) Batman confesses to the Bat-Family
that he has been compromised by the Joker toxin (Dark Nights: The Batman Who Laughs)...
Daaaaaarrk.
8.) After Batman and Catwoman
became engaged, the latter’s name needs to be cleared of a crime that she didn’t
commit in order to freely marry the former.
In order to do so, they have to come to the territory of Batman’s deadly
ex – Talia al Ghul (Batman #35). An entertaining clash ensues…
7.) Riding shotgun on Flash’s cosmic treadmill, Batman gets
to go to the Flashpoint universe and meet his father (The Flash #21 and Batman #22)…
The father-and-son Batmen also
get to fight side by side…
6.) “The War of Jokes and Riddles”
(Batman #25-#32) is one of the most
epic Batman storylines in recent
memory. It’s a flashback story set during
Batman’s early years, in which Gotham was being torn apart by a war going on between the Joker and
the Riddler, with Batman’s supervillains joining
one side or the other.
In an attempt to
get his finger on the situation, Bruce Wayne invites the two villains to a fine
dining meeting in Wayne Manor (Batman #29).
“The War of Jokes and Riddles” has
plenty of amazing highlights. I could easily
fill this list with just moments from this storyline. But let me just have one more…
5.) The fantastic climax, in
which Batman loses his cool and snaps at the Riddler (Batman #32)…
In the end, by saving Batman from
crossing the line, it is the Joker who comes out of top of the War.
4.) The gritty fight between Batman
and Elmer Fudd (Batman/Elmer Fudd Special)...
3.) Batman and Rorschach finally meet (Doomsday Clock #2).
2.) Capping a fantastic Batman year
is “Super Friends” (Batman #35-#36), a fantastic two-part story that explores the relationship
of Batman and Superman. The first part
is a perfect deconstruction of how each hero views the other, which culminates
in an unexpected, unplanned meeting…
Part two then delivers the most adorable double
date in comics ever…
1.) Batman proposes to Catwoman (Batman #24). Duh.
