Bill Murray is a legend. He first rose into prominence as a comedian,
and his roles in classic movies like Caddyshack,
Ghostbusters, and Groundhog Day cemented his status as an
icon. But what further upgraded his reputation
in the Internet Age are the various stories that spread of him just spontaneously showing
up at random places and hanging out with the people there. These range from crashing parties to photobombing
engagement photos to becoming an impromptu barkeep. This side of the actor is what the documentary
film The Bill Murray Stories: Life
Lessons Learned from a Mythical Man set out to explore.
It’s quite a delightful
documentary, primarily because the subject matter is delightful. Presenting photos, footage, and interviews
from people who experienced those surreal encounters first-hand, it
successfully relays the magic of those once-in-a-lifetime moments.
For years, I’ve enjoyed reading
these Bill Murray stories, and if nothing else, I appreciate this documentary because
it serves as a one-stop source for many of those anecdotes.
Aside from compiling these
stories, the documentary also tries to explain Murray’s behavior –
the motivation on why he goes his way in giving these experiences to people. Even if you already love him, the great analysis
will only make you love him more.
In addition, the documentary offers what Murray is teaching us from all these.
In addition, the documentary offers what Murray is teaching us from all these.
All in all, The Bill Murray Stories: Life Lessons Learned from a Mythical Man
might not be the overall best documentary of 2018, but it’s most likely the
most fun.
