For a Moment, 'My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising' Seems Special

Heroes Rising is the second film of the My Hero Academia franchise.  It sees U.A. High School’s Class 1-A, as part of their training and education, being charged to serve a tight-knit, rural community that’s residing on a remote island that hasn’t had a hero for a while.  While this assignment is expected to simply consist of community service-type tasks, it suddenly escalates into a mission that’s way above their pay grade when Nine, a deadly villain whose Quirk (i.e. superpower) is similar to All For One’s ability to steal Quirks, and his underlings attack the island.

'My Hero Academia: Two Heroes' Isn't Exactly a Must-Watch

My Hero Academia: Two Heroes (a.k.a. Boku no Hero Academia the Movie: Two Heroes) is the first movie of the My Hero Academia franchise.  It is set between season two and season three of the anime series – during the summer vacation.  It follows main protagonist Izuku Midoriya a.k.a. Deku as he accompanies All Might to I-Island – an artificial, mobile, state-of-the-art island where the world’s best scientists live, conduct Quirk-related researches, and develop gadgets and technologies that will aid heroes.

As a Quirky Spin on the Superhero Genre, 'My Hero Academia' Is Pretty Refreshing

It can’t be helped but compare My Hero Academia – alternatively known as Boku no Hero Academia – with One-Punch Man.  Both are anime spins on the superhero genre, and have a roster of colorful characters.  In fact, I checked out My Hero Academia in the first place to serve as a One-Punch Man fix, since there’s still no announcement of when its second season is expected to air.  At early episodes, I thought it wasn’t as fun, funny, and exciting as One-Punch Man.  But a bit later, it turned out being a distinctive and special superhero anime on its own.  Now, I’m just as excitedly looking forward to its season 2 as I do with One-Punch Man.
