'Trolls World Tour' Is No Showstopper

Trolls World Tour was supposed to have a wide release in theaters.  But because of the coronavirus pandemic – which essentially put 2020 cinema on pause – it was instead released digitally on its scheduled release date.  It’s kinda historic.  Nothing exactly like this has ever happened before with a movie.  Other theatrical movies whose impending release dates got affected by the coronavirus (e.g. Black Widow, Mulan, No Time to Die, A Quiet Place Part II, The New Mutants, etc.) simply moved their releases to a later date.  Trolls World Tour, on the other hand, pushed through with the original release date, but changed it from theatrical to VOD.  The somewhat remarkable nature of its release is what appealed me to watch it more than the actual movie itself.

'Trolls Holiday' Is a Cheesy, Breezy TV Special

Trolls Holiday is a half-hour TV special set after the events of the Trolls film.  Because Trollstice – the annual occasion where Bergen eat Trolls in order to feel happy – has been once and for all abolished, Bergen Town is left with no holiday to celebrate.  Meanwhile, the bubbly, musical Trolls are perpetually enjoying various holidays.  Realizing that her friend Bridget and the rest of Bergen Town is missing out, Queen Poppy enlists the help of Branch and the rest of the Trolls gang to develop a holiday for the Bergens.  However, it is Poppy who will learn the true essence of a holiday, which is deeper than presents, decorations, and glitters.

‘Trolls’ Is Terribly Predictable, but Not Necessarily Terrible

The animated movie Trolls is based on the dolls of the same name.  It’s kind of an obscure product now, but I’m old enough to remember how popular it was back in the day.  In fact, when I first saw the initial teasers for this film, I’m actually disappointed that the titular Trolls of this movie don’t have the iconic look of the toys.  I thought the character design for the movie’s depiction of the Trolls made them look like cheap Smurfs knockoffs.
