How Is My 2020 TV Watching So Far

Time flies fast; it’s midway through 2020 already!  That means, as usual of this blog at this point of the year, I want to enumerate and rank (from best to least, in my opinion) all the TV shows that I watched from January to June.  There are actually just a few them, compared to the quantity of what I had in the previous years. Also, as what I started last year, I’m no longer including the anime I watched in this list since they now have their own regular seasonal rankings.  So, without further ado…

Rick and Morty Season 4
Just as the first half of season 4 was enough for it to earn a spot in my last year’s top 10 best TV series, the second half of season 4 is enough for it to get the mid-year list top spot once again

What We Do in the Shadows Season 2
In my opinion, season 2 is a step up from the already terrific season 1.  I found the jokes to be more hilarious (I honestly laughed more with season 2 than with season 1) and the play on mythological elements – such as an Internet troll turning out to be a literal troll, and vampires having ghost versions of themselves, since technically, their human selves have died – to be more amusing and clever.

Castlevania Season 3
It couldn’t match the masterpiece quality of season 2, but it’s a strong, dark, outstanding season nonetheless.

Looney Tunes Cartoons Season 1

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7
Finally caught up with this for its finale.  CLICK HERE for my full thoughts on the show as a whole.

Crash Landing on You

Itaewon Class

The Last Dance

Westworld Season 3
The final, big plot twist is so cheesy and doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.  But I have to admit that I found it really moving.  I guess I’m a sucker for sentimental turns like that.  Still, I think the showrunners could – should – have done a better job in building it up and selling it.  Furthermore, season 3 just doesn’t quite have that “Westworld” gravitas.  Honestly, I’m getting worried that this is going to turn out into another Game of Thrones.  I haven’t given up on it, though.

Legends of Tomorrow Season 5
Sad to see Brandon Routh exit the show, but Legends of Tomorrow remains Legends of Tomorrow even without him – wacky, comic book-y fun.  It also really helped that Mona and Gary weren’t on screen much during season 5.

Arrow Season 8
Decent sendoff.  CLICK HERE for my full thoughts on the show as a whole.

Bert Kreischer: Hey Big Boy

Riverdale Season 4
Ah, the show that just aims to entertain, and DGAF about logic, suitability, and anything else.  Season 4 is probably my favorite season since the first one.  But I’m anxious about the storm that’s definitely going to hit next season, as Betty and Archie are starting to get into an affair (poor Jughead and Veronica).

Nancy Drew Season 1

Doctor Who Season 12
The Thirteenth Doctor’s sophomore season is an improvement, but not that much.  I like the shocking twist of a secret, new incarnation of the Doctor (played by Jo Martin), and I can’t wait to learn her backstory in the next season.  On the other hand, I have mixed feelings about the Doctor being revealed as the Timeless Child.

13 Reasons Why Season 4
The first season was arguably good.  But this series got trashier with each new season.  Still, it somehow kept me watching it till the end, for – I won’t deny it – I found aspects of it genuinely entertaining and touching.

The Flash Season 6
The most boring and forgettable season to date.

Power Rangers Beast Morphers Episode 36
In this episode, titled “Grid Connection”, the current Power Rangers team joins forces with three dino-themed Rangers teams – Mighty Morphin’ (the OG), Dino Thunder, and Dino Charge.  It’s nothing great, really.  I only decided to watch it since it features the return of Jason Lee Scott as the Red Ranger (his teammates didn’t unmask).
