12 years after it aired, I watched Friends for the first time and became a fan.
2016 is also the year I finally got into A Song of Ice and Fire and Game of Thrones (after years of putting off).

SPORTS

Gilas fail to qualify for the Olympics.
Olympics 2016 was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

WWE splits into two brands again.
Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks's championship match at Hell in a Cell is the first women's match to headline a WWE pay-per-view, as well as the first ever women's Hell in a Cell match.
Goldberg returns.  Beats Brock Lesnar in two minutes.
Aaron Gordon and Zach LaVine have an epic slam dunk competition duel.
Kobe fittingly scores 60 points in his last game.
Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant, and Tim Duncan retire.
Stephen Curry becomes the first unanimous MVP.
2015-16 Warriors earn a 73-9 record, the best in NBA history...
...but lose to the Cavaliers in the Finals, wasting a 3-1 lead.
Kevin Durant joins the Warriors during the off season, though.
Curry gets the record for most three pointers made in a game with 13 treys. 
Luke Walton becomes the Lakers' new head coach.
San Miguel Beermen win the 2015-16 Philippine Cup in historic fashion: overcoming a 0-3 hole!
